Yes, that is exactly what we did on a couple nights. Other nights, there
was absolutely no one around to teach!

I've sailed on 16+ day cruises to Asia, Australia, Europe, and
Transatlantic.... and all had more late night people then this 10-day Panama
Canal cruise. Last year I even sailed 12-days on Silversea through the
Med.... and again, a much more lively group of people.

I'm certainly not blaming Princess, but this particular cruise was a real
dud as far as party people were concerned. And I'm not talking about
staying up until 4-5am..... how about midnight??

Ernie, there are always some younger and living older people
to be found, even on canal cruises. My first canal cruise was 16 days
on the Galaxy. Eileen and I hooked up with some very cool people from
Mexico and England (both older and younger than us). And, we danced
from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM every single night. Sometimes you just have to
instruct others in how to have a party. I'd rather not, but if I'm
desperate enough, teaching is my profession.

Last February, we did 15 nights from Miami to San Francisco on the
Mercury. I didn't get to bed before 2:00 AM on even one single night.
And I didn't have to do any teaching.

My point is that Princess can *schedule* all the activities they want. If
no one shows up (which was the case on CORAL PRINCESS) then why bother? Of
course the daytime activities were well attended, but at night, forget it!

It was like being on Holland America all over again! Sorry HAL fans, but I
have taken four HAL cruises and each one was deader then the next at night.
No more HAL for me.

I've been on five HAL cruises, and only two were dead. Perhaps we hang
out in different spots on the ship. Late night, I'm always in the disco
or whatever passes for a disco on the ship. Where are you?

Howard

As for trivia questions.... it's not something that would make me choose one
cruise line over another.

They are different in that

a) they schedule more comedy-type shows which I like better than
the alternatives
b) their trivia includes questions about 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's.
When we sailed Celebrity it seemed the questions were all about
stuff from the 30's, 40's and 50's.

I am at the disco, or whatever poor excuse HAL likes to call a disco. One
or two people sitting on a bar stool in an empty lounge is not my idea of
fun, and hardly a "disco". While I certainly don't expect a Carnival type
atmosphere on HAL, a little activity past midnight would be nice.

I would also like to mention I've taken something like 15 Princess Cruises,
and never experienced anything like the lack of liveliness on CORAL
PRINCESS. One reason is that on other Princess ships there is a dedicated
nightclub. Skywalkers, Stage Door, what have you. On CORAL PRINCESS there
is no nightclub. They use the Explorer's Lounge which has about as much
atmosphere as the Princess Theater. In fact, it is a small show lounge for
performers.... complete with a stage. It makes an absolutely pathetic
nightclub, and as witnessed by the few people that actually walked past it,
keep walking! I guess Princess feels the CORAL/ISLAND don't need a
nightclub/disco since the majority of their passengers are not interested.
I suppose they were right, but even so if a proper nightclub/disco were
present, I think it might have seen some activity. Sitting in a large show
lounge listening to disco music is kind of sad. Thankfully Herman and
George the bartenders kept us entertained as much as they could. Thanks
guys!

Brenda, go on a Celebrity board. So often the deline in overall product,
including food and service is discussed and debated.

As far as superior, it is all in the definition. I think you shouldn't
switch to anything but try various lines and see which line is the
better fit or the line you find most pleasing..

Well, when there is no one around or no one I want to party with (which
has happened to me on a few cruises), or no place (or decent music) to
have a party (which was definitely the case on the Seabourn Sun), there
isn't much you can do about this.

It would actually be very cool if the cruise lines would release some
demographics on passengers that are booked about 60 days before sailing.
For dudes like me, who don't mind booking late, this could play a
significat in the decision making process.

Agreed! That is actually a terrific idea, and now that cruise lines require
personal information beforehand, it would not be that difficult to do.

I haven't had the luxury of cruising enough to actually "change" from one
cruiseline to another. Personally, instead of calling it that, I prefer to say
I'm trying something different or simply adding another line to the mix.

~Lindsay ----- who wishes her "mix" would get to get to grow larger.

Honestly I don't get this thing that some people have of using only one
cruise line. I do understand having a favorite cruise line. How do you
find a favorite if you don't try some of the others? Also time does not
stand still for me or the cruise lines. They make changes and what I
desire on a cruise changes even in the same year. Sometimes I want
something laid back, other times I desire something with more energy.

My sentiments exactly, Charles.

Charles wrote:

It should not be a question of changing. My next
cruise could be on either Princess or Celebrity--or RCI, Carnival, HAL,
etc. Even with the cruise line loyalty programs I don't see anything
they offer to compel anyone to be loyal to one cruise line.

While all those perks are nice, give me 24 hour fresh-water pool access, more
flexibility with meals and buffets, better entertainment, etc. I couldn't care
less how my food is "presented" but taste is very important to me. All that
said, I imagine if Celebrity was sailing from a port close to me and the price
was right, I would have no problem hopping aboard.

Being met with a flute of champagne and
escorted to your cabin, more expensive chocolates on your pillow, no
announcements, real china in the buffet, someone to carry your tray if you
choose, a linen lined tray in the buffet, unlimited towels by the pool,
finesse in preparing food, thought provoking art work, eclectic yet tasteful
decor, fabulous specialty dining on the M-Class ships. All the little
touches add up to a wonderful product that I hope you enjoy. It's not leaps
and bounds ahead of Princess, but it is a tad bit nicer IMO

I hope the ship

at least SOME of the entertainment isn't aimed at the
