Default Airline check in/luggage question

I would appreciate some guidance. I'm flying from Newark to Tokyo on
Continental Air, changing carriers and flying from Tokyo to Singapore
on NWA and again changing carriers and flying from Singapore to Bali
on Singapore Air. My question is: how do I handle my luggage and
check in with NWA in Tokyo and with Singapore Air in Singapore? Can I
check in for all 3 flights in Newark when I check in with
Continental? Can I check my luggage through to Bali in Newark, or do
I have to get my luggage and check in seperately in Tokyo and
Singapore?

Short answer: if you're on one PNR (Passenger Name Record), yes.
Continental will interline with Northwest at Tokyo and Singapore at
Singapore. If you're on separate PNR's, I would show your record to the CO
agent in EWR and ask them to - they may well do that.

They should. See: http://www.iatci.com/members.aspx

All three airlines have mutual interline baggage agreements with each
other. They should also check you through to your final destination.
