The biggest advantages are low price if you are under 70 or so and you
can package your own trip to include flights and hotels and car
rentals in addition to the basic cruise. No need to be tied to the
cruise line to further your vacation.

If you are older the cruise line insurance is often cheaper as the
third party versions are based upon age, trip length and cost.

A disadvantage to getting the cruise line insurance is that if the
cruise line becomes bankrupt, you become an unsecured creditor.

I will look into this....also I found a company called Travel Guard
Ins. Co. in NY and spoke to a rep and they sounded very good. I was
wondering if anyone has heard of them or know of their reputation.

I used Travel Guard once. They are an insurance company if I
recall correctly. I had no issues so I can't comment on
their service.

insuremytrip.com is a broker of sorts, representing many
insurance brands and types. They carry/sell Travel guard as
well, or at least they did.

If you go to insuremytrip.com you will find Travel Guard and many other
insurance ccmpanies. This will allow you to compare ea company and see
what fits your needs most. You can call insuremytrip.com or any of the
individual companies, also you can purchase insurance through the
website or go directly to the insurance company. Phone #s will be on the
website.

We have purchased insurance through several different companies, bought
some through the website and some through our TA. If nothing else
insuremytrip.com is great for gathering info. I have no connection to
them other then being a happy customer of theirs.

This has really happened and was talked about on RTC.

I have two policies with them now for future cruises. A couple of years
ago I got sick and had to cancel just before a cruise. Travel Guard
sent a check for the whole trip almost immediately after receiving the
documentation from my Doctor.
