Default How much does it cost to operate?

Just curious, but let's say a cruiseship can take on 2,000 passengers. How
much would it cost to operate such a ship per week?

probably about $1 Million or more
your cost would be writeoff on ship's construction loan.
Fuel of about 600 metric tons a week
Food for 2000 passengers and crew of about 450.
Wages for 450 crew
insurance
cost of shore operations (office and support)

So $52 million a year.

your cost would be writeoff on ship's construction loan.

I don't understand what you mean by the above.

Fuel of about 600 metric tons a week
Food for 2000 passengers and crew of about 450.

Is this a guess for the number of employees ... or is it based off of some
formula based on number of passengers?

Wages for 450 crew
insurance
cost of shore operations (office and support)

Would this change if it was an around-the-world cruiseship? If it would,
how would it?

Thanks for replying!

The 10-Q forms that the companies have to file with the SEC have that
information in the aggregate. I supposed you could divide by 3 (they are
quarterly reports) and then divide by the number of ships a company has and
get a working approximation. Certainly closer than guessing (g).
Go to www.sec.gov, click on the EDGAR button and then look up the cruise
line's name. For instance the Carnival 10--Q for the quarter ending 2-29 is
at http://tinyurl.com/3cay3

It came up 2cay3 on its own accord, just sorta scary given the subject (g).

Add to that shipboard ops like fire equipment and maintenance, medical
services and supplies, and other ongoing expenses like computer maintenance
and booze.

Huh? An "around the world" cruise ship?

Almost all cruiseship lines offer at least one. Here's Cunard's:

I'm still not entirely sure what you mean by an "around the world"
cruise ship.

Karen

You know--a cruise ship that stretches around the world. 25000 miles in
length, 125' beam. I think the inside cabins are cheaper.
