New Year's Eve 2005

Could somebody please tell me what time i should arrive in Times
Square to see the Ball Lowering at midnight?.

My advice? Never. Watch it on TV in a bar and go bar-hopping among
festive, friendly people that night. But if you really feel a need to
be among a huge crowd of tourists (plus a small number of New Yorkers)
waiting to watch a small ball drop, you'll have to get there early. I
could guess when, but I'd rather not. Suffice it to say, though, that
you'll have to stand for hours.

I agree with Michael. Watch it on TV. Time Square security is set up
so that everybody gets penned in in small groups. There's no leaving to
get warm, eat or use the bathroom. No backpacks, no open containers of
alcohol. If you leave your designated spot you will not be permitted
back. Especially if it's raining icy rain this is not how I'd like to
greet the New Year, by catching cold.
