FAA shutdown on Oct 1?
"Lucifer" wrote in message ... http://www.govexec.com/dailyfed/0903/091603a1.htm Legislation introduced in the Senate on Tuesday would extend airport construction and security funding for half a year, allowing lawmakers time to rethink a compromise version of the 2003 Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill that leaves some air traffic controllers vulnerable to job competitions. Sen. John Rockefeller, D-W.Va., introduced the temporary FAA reauthorization legislation so that Congress would not feel rushed to pass the permanent four-year, $60 billion reauthorization bill before Oct. 1, when funding for key aviation projects runs out Bush to veto FAA reauthorization bill? Likely. http://washingtontimes.com/business/...3539-8359r.htm Senate Democrats yesterday proposed an alternative to a Bush administration plan to privatize air-traffic control at an additional 69 regional airports. They want to keep Federal Aviation Administration air-traffic controllers on the government payroll instead of turning their jobs over to private companies. Included on the list of control towers that would be privatized are airports in Manassas and Newport News in Virginia. "You do not fool with the air- transportation system," said Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV, West Virginia Democrat. Like Reagan? Maneta (D) is promising "massive layoffs", as the alternative. |

I believe AvWeb reported that the rockefeller bill was expected, and was
pretty much rumored to be pronounced 'dead on arrival'. It will be interesting to see what really happens. BTW: The biggest fight here....The contract towers have in fact saved millions and have not been dangerous.
