I hope that they can spot logically inconsistent statements. Some can,
some can't. It has some diagnostic utility.

Why should they bother? Why don't you just stop lying instead? Aren't you
even aware that lying is considered wrong???

It is effortless for those who can do it, so bothering isn't necessary.

Why don't you just stop lying instead?

I don't lie.

Aren't you even aware that lying is considered wrong???

So when the Gestapo knocks on your door, you'll just lead the way to the
attic where you're hiding your Jewish friends? It would be wrong to lie
and say that there were no Jews in the house, after all.

That would be you and you alone. You're the only person capable of
knowing if you are lying or not.

Why don't you just stop lying instead?

I don't lie.

Mxsmanic: "I lied."

Mxsmanic: "I don't lie."

I guess you can somehow explain how neither of these are lies.

Aren't you even aware that lying is considered wrong???

The Gestapo does not exist here and now, I have no Jewish friends that
I am hiding, and this strawman has already rendered itself ludicrous.

So am I lying or telling the truth?

Jewish friends that I am hiding, and this strawman
has already rendered itself ludicrous.

You're avoiding my point. In such a situation, do you still consider
lying wrong? Your original assertion included no qualifications.

Clearly your lied either way.

Jewish friends that I am hiding, and this strawman

Sure Mixi, I'll play your silly little game.

In that situation, lives are on the line. To lie would be the lesser
of two evils. This is commonsense. What relevance this has to you
telling porky pies here is beyond me.

Just don't expect any credibility or credence in this place ever.

Correct.

You've just admitted that your implied general characterization of all
lies as wrong is inappropriate.

Just don't expect any credibility or credence in this place ever.

What is "this place"?

No I did not. Read it again. And again if necessary. Once more even.

Any reasonable person considers lies as wrong - for very good and very
obvious reasons. Do you really need them spelled out?

Killing is also considered wrong, but can also be the lesser of two
evils. Is this concept really that difficult for you to grasp?

Did you have a point to make, or did you just want to make a ludicrous
comparison?

Just don't expect any credibility or credence in this place ever.

What is "this place"?

Another classic Mixamatic answer...

This forum, Mixi, this forum.
