Athens pre cruise stay

We have a cruise booked for next April leaving from Athens. We would
like to arrive 2-3 days early to sightsee in and around Athens. We
would appreciate any recommendations as to accomodations,
transportation, sights, etc.

Hotel Attolos seems to get lots of good reviews and has very reasonable prices.
I stayed at Hotel Adams but would not recommend it.

What is your budget/what # of star of hotels do you prefer? Most
tourist transportation is by foot, taxi or bus. There are many
excellent guide books on the sights, but in 2/3 days, you'll want to
get to the Platka, Acropolis, Agoura, etc.

The 4* "Electra Palace" (not the "Electra Hotel" is the finest hotel
actually located *in* the Plaka. Upper floors with front-facing rooms
have a very nice view of the Acropolis. I stayed there in '99 & '00.
For the historical sites and museums pick-up a "Blue Guide Athens" and
a "Streetwise Athens" map for getting around. Regards, Walter
