Problem flying to CTG, Colombia

Hi folks,

Is it just me, or are 2 connections or more flights + very high fares to
CTG, Colombia normal?

I'd like to travel from EWR or JFK to CTG in June, flexible days and dates.

Is a better way to fly to Miama or Ft.Lauderdale and then take a flight from
there to Cartagena?

Any suggestions on making the flight route simpler and less expensive would
be great.

I see plenty of flights with just one connection in either Bogota or Miami,
however I have no clue of the prices. Also keep in mind that June is middle
of high season. From EWR CO flies to BOG or MIA (connecting with AV to CTG),
from JFK AA flies to MIA and AV flies to BOG (both connecting with AV to
CTG). So, I don't know which site you used for a timetable... I got this
from http://www.amadeus.net .
For prices I don't know where to look really, http://www.travelocity.com
gave JFK-BOG-CTG on AV & CTG-BOG-JFK on AV in June for USD 642 including
taxes.
