Default March Trip!!!

My husband and I are planning a trip to Australia and NZ in Mar/Apr:
Start in Sydney-drive the coast to Kangaroo Isld and fly to Cairns.
Then drive the North and South Islands of NZ. About 5wks.
Do we need to make hotel reservations ahead of time? Is there
reasonable priced chain of motels to look for? All we need is a
private clean, room & bath, coffee pot and TV. How about Mom & Pop type motels?
How cold will it be on the south NZ in early April? How long are
daylight hours?

It depends on whether it's Easter at the time, and whether it's also
School Holidays in the states you pass through; also whether it's Moomba
or the GrandPrix in Melbourne when you get there. With that proviso,
generally no.

Contact the NRMA

in Sydney and obtain their Accommodation Guide (for hotels and motels)
and Tourist Park Guide (for Caravan Parks with cabins and
transpotables). Bring your Automobile Association membership, you may
get a discount and also be able to join here for roadside assistance if
you have any problems.

There are many chains; two in the cheaper range a

March 23rd is the equinox, so at every location on earth on that day the day
and night are 12 hours each. Given that you will be there a week later,
there will be a tiny bit less than 12 hours of daylight.

I haven't been there at that time of year, but given its lattitude and time
of year, I would expect that it easily get to 90F at sea level during the
day and below freezing at altitude at night, with everything in between.
After Australia, warm clothes will be your problem - and how warm they need
to be will depend upon how much time you will be spending outdoors, and at
what altitude.
