Public swimming halted for 'Muslim afternoon'

In a further example that the values and aspirations of Islam are
antithetical to those of the United Kingdom, Croydon Council has
instituted 'Muslim only' swimming times in its public swimming
baths.

Cranmer's occasional communicant, Mr Croydonian, will now be barred
for two whole hours on Sundays from swimming in his revealing speedos,
and there will be no watching the girls go by, because they are all
banned. Mr Croydonian will only be admitted if he conforms to Shari'a
law and wears shorts that hide the navel and cover the knees.

Croydon Council has made provision for Muslim women outside its normal
opening hours, and the Shari'a dress code is to be covered from the
neck down to the ankle. Have you ever tried swimming wrapped in a
sheet? Cranmer can't help wondering why health and safety factors
have been subsumed to this impractical dress code.

Croydon Mosque states quite unequivocally: 'Muslims are not allowed
to show off intimate parts of their body. This is non-negotiable.
Muslims have as much right to go swimming as anyone else.'

Indeed they do, sir, indeed they do. But everyone else also has as much
right to go swimming when they wish to do so. This is the United
Kingdom, and nothing is 'non-negotiable' in its liberal democratic
tradition. With ironic timing, the Prime Minister has said in a speech
today that tolerance was 'what makes Britain, Britain' and warned 'we
must be ready to defend this attitude...so conform to it; or don't come
here. We don't want the hate-mongers, whatever their race, religion or
creed.'

Cranmer wonders how such sectarianism in the leisure industry would go
down in other parts of the UK. What would be the outcry in Northern
Ireland or Scotland if there were 'Protestant only' swimming times? How
would the Mohammedans react if Christians started to insist on
non-negotiable Christian-only hours in the public services? Cries of
'racism'? Religious discrimination? Insults to 'The Prophet'?
'Behead those who oppose the Shari'a swim'?

By adopting Islamic practices, Croydon Council is unwittingly
conforming to the demands of the Dar-al-harb - the House of War. In
Islamic theology, this is a battle that rages until there is a victor,
and a vanquished...

How is it bigoted, Mike? PJ's just reporting [what I assume to be] the
facts.

His stuff comes from the Moonies (Washington Times), which tells you
how factual it is.

It would actually be handy for women visitors who want to fit in with
this particular version of the Muslim dress code to know when these
times are, and it would it be entirely on-topic for the group to give
such information, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for PJ to do
it.

I suspect his depiction how these women dress when swimming unobserved
by men are entirely the product of some sort of kinky fantasy. Some
actual facts about this sort of policy: Glasgow Council used to run a
pool in Govanhill, a substantially Pakistani area. They had a few
women-only swimming times during the week which local Muslim women went
to. In 2001 they closed the baths; probably their intention was to sell
the land to whatever private developer came up with the largest bribe.
Govanhill is an area where people, whatever their race or religion,
mostly have little money and poor health; the baths made a big difference.
What they were offered as an alternative was way too far away for most
users to reach, and for the Muslim women, had the insuperable problem
that you could see into it from all round, it had huge uncurtainable
windows.

More about the campaign to keep the baths open:

If Croydon is doing better, good for them.

I made the mistake of wearing goggles in a public swimming pool in
Scotland. The crud in that pool was unbelievable and I haven't been in
a public swimming pool since there or in Australia.

I have always said if Scotland was closer to the equator everyone would
be dead from a disease of one sort or another.

Still I enjoyed living in my ancestral home.....

I haven't been to one in years either. Couldn't help wondering how many
small boys had been peeing in the water before I got there.

Your assumption is hasty. It's most certainly not a fact that muslim
women are going to swim while fully dressed.

Since you're not allowed in while they are there, how could you
possibly know?
But don't worry you can investigate closer to home, as it seems this is
not only going on in Croydon England, but also in... Seattle Washington
USA!

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...uslimswim.html

Check it out.
"The muslim community in Seattle is still new; We've only been here for
10 years but already our community has grown *EXPONENTIALLY*!"

bet you're thrilled about that.

By knowing that the law allows them to uncover with other women and
that there's no way anyone could swim in a hijab.
