Perth Like Eastern Australia?
Is Perth at all like eastern Australia? Is Perth in a desert climate
(low humidity, hot) while Sydney is like tropical rainforest (humid and warm)? Are just as good shops, resturants and other goods and services similar in quality, quantity and price in Perth as in the east? How about long term holdiay rentals in the Perth beach area? These are less expensive than in Bondi Beach? About how much for a three month stay? Are there as many mosquitos, snakes, crocidiles in Perth as back east? Any other information about Perth would be appreciated. |

oups.com: Is Perth at all like eastern Australia? Is Perth in a desert climate (low humidity, hot) while Sydney is like tropical rainforest (humid and warm)? Perth is much drier and warmer than Sydney. Although there is a bit of rain at the moment, generally speaking you can expect sunny days most of the year, warm in Spring and Autumn through to scortching hot (40deg C) in Summer. Are just as good shops, resturants and other goods and services similar in quality, quantity and price in Perth as in the east? No, shopping is not as good as the east coast, and consumer goods are generally more expensive. Food (both fresh and restaurant) is notably more expensive and of poorer quality (generally) and lower variety. How about long term holdiay rentals in the Perth beach area? These are less expensive than in Bondi Beach? About how much for a three month stay? I couldn't really say. Perth real estate in general is now secondl only to Sydney in price, but I don't know how this has affected the holiday market. Are there as many mosquitos, snakes, crocidiles in Perth as back east? There are as many crocodiles in Perth as there are in Sydney (ie none, if you exclude the zoo). Snakes, you might see in a national park - not that I ever have. Mosquitoes, probably fewer because it is drier, but they are around. Make sure you cover up/use repellant because the Ross River virus has been detected as far south as Perth. Any other information about Perth would be appreciated. Full of English people and probably the least 'multicultural' of any Australian city - although you will see more Aboriginals on the street than you would in Sydney (although, sadly, the locals do tend to be racist). A very beautiful city to look at (at least the centre is) and it's great place to hang out on the beach and drink beer, but not much else to do. A *much* slower lifestyle than any of the eastern capitals. (Remember the locals' nickname for the city is 'Dullsville' and for the state 'Wait Awhile"). The locals are generally friendly though - not like Sydney! R. |

Perth is a nice enough little place - probably the nicest city in a 2,000 kms radius. |

Have they had more race riots in Perth than Sydney? Gerrit |

Then there are those suburbs of Perth which have city status e.g. Armadale, Fremantle, etc. :-) Gerrit - Armadale |

coming to Australia is hugely expensive and equally so getting around is
also - big distances. You will see ore on the east coast than staying in Perth. It is miles from anywhere.... Get information from websites of the different states in Australia. They will send you heaps of info. Also look at what you want in a holiday - the climate varies depending on the location and season. Sydney can be a cold as Perth - but most Australian capital cities are Mediterranean in climate. Eddy le Couvreur wrote: "Peter Webb" schreef in bericht ... wrote in message oups.com... Suggest you look up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mediterranean_climate for a definition of that. You'll find Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra are definitely something other. Besides the comment that you see more on the east coast is biased. It depends entirely on what you are looking for. Have you ever been on the west coast? Gerrit |

A bit off topic but I notice that Circus Oz is coming to Perth about
February 2007. http://www.circusoz.com.au We saw the show in Brisbane in 2002. While it probably has changed somewhat (new performers = new acts) it was one of the best circuses we had seen and there are no animal acts (unless you count the "strong man"). If you will be in Perth around that time, catch the show. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Ross |
