Barcelona, vicinity, Hotel Recommendations?

Hello board,

Looking for a reasonably priced hotel/pensione that does not have to
be in Barcelona. I'll have a car and I don't mind driving outside the
city limits, besides, that's part of being adventurous!

Any recommendations for lodging based on above?

Never having been to Spain, how easy is it to find accomodations
outside of a big city, like Barcelona??? On average, how much would a
double or quad room go for? BTW, we're a family of four, two adults
and two teenagers who want to act like adults!!!
