Default Rental Car Question

SMS, thank you for your response, but if we use your logic of bumping
up actual sizes, a Corolla is mid-size and the Mazda 6 is full-size in
the rental car world. Maybe it would be better to state the argument
like this: When Dollar makes you choose the the size of car you want
and accept the charge per day accordingly, it has one standard for car
sizes; then when you go to pick up your vehicle, the reservation will
be seen as a request only and Dollar has another standard for car
sizes.

What if going grocery shopping was like renting a car? This is how it
would work: You go through the aisles and pick out what you want. You
choose some expensive stuff, because you are willing to pay for it.
You go to the register, and the total is tallied. You pay the total,
then on the way out, a person at the exit take out all of your
groceries and replaces them with carrots, saying "what is on the shelf
is only a request. We try to honor your request, but in this case,
each request represents these carrots. Even though you didn't get
what you wanted, and even though you chose some expensive groceries,
our primary goal is to make sure you at least have something to eat."

Using this scenario and applying it to rental car companies, it would
be better to choose the cheapest vehicle and hope for the best,
letting each purchase be a surprise.
