Cathy Pacific, United, or Korean to Hong Kong?
Hey all
I have a friend that needs to get to Hong Kong this coming May. He will be flying most likely from JKF and for what ever reason seems to think he can ALWAYS do better in terms of price by booking this tickets his self, rather than working with a travel agent to see if they have a good consolidator fare. In any event he says his choices are Cathy Pacific, United, or Korean. He would like to go business class if the price is right, but never the less will not settle for anything less than premium economy. So first off any suggestions for online sites with consolidator fares (just need airfare, not hotel, so no packages)? Also any recommendations, as far as the airlines I have listed above? Thanks |

The usual advice if you're looking for consolidator fares is to look at the little ads in the travel section of the NY Times for specialist agents. The usual advice is also to remmeber that consolidators can save you a bundle if you're too late for regular advance purchase tickets, but since he's not, they're probably not worth the hassle. You might also remind him that there is a large airport in Newark, and that Continental has non-stops from there to HKG at very good prices. I see $824 round trips in May. R's, John |

Thanks If he can afford Business class on Cathay it is a no-brainer. Not sure if they offer Premium Economy but I flew them a few times JFK to HKG via Vancouver in Business. The only airline that impressed me more than Singapore. United does have a new seat in Business class that is not too bad. Flew over Christmas from SYD-SFO-SYD. It was considerably less expensive than QANTAS at the time and the seat was a truly flat bed (not tilted down at the feet). In Economy, though, their 747 does not have individual seat back entertainment so would choose QANTAS, Delta or VAustralia for that route in the back of the jet - via LAX on the latter two. |

Thanks Actually, I don't think any of these three has a true "premium economy," although United has Economy Plus. I think that JAL may have a true Premium Economy. |
