Default buy a car in Sydney

Matteo, the best thing, and easiest way to go, is to go to the King's Cross
Car Market. It's specifically for backpackers and you actually HAVE to have
a passport (showing you are NOT an Australian) to buy or sell a car there.

There are dealers that also cater to backpackers, but you often end up
paying more than you need to there. The advantage to a dealer is that they
might give you a "buyback" deal...offer to buy the car back at a certain
price when you're done with it. But generally the buyback is under 50% of
what you paid. Not a very good deal, let me tell you. Two of the main
dealers catering to backpackers a Traveller's Auto Barn
(http://www.travellers-autobarn.com.a...ab-sydney.html)
and Travellers-mate (http://www.travellersmate.com.au/).

Pretty much all of those places will have an abundance of Ford Falcons,
which is the best car to buy in Australia for a backpacker...the parts are
VERY easy to find if the car breaks down, since there are so many around.
Beware of buying a foreign wagon, as they generally don't have cooling
systems that can handle the heat there, if you plan to go long distances.

Good luck!
