Public transit strike announced in Toronto
The transit workers' union announced today that they would be going on
strike against the Toronto Transit Commission as of Monday morning, April 11. This means the city will have no subway, buses, or streetcars until the strike is ended either by a settlement being reached or (as on other occasions in the past) by action of the provincial legislature. Regional services operated into Toronto by other agencies should continue to operate unaffected: that would include GO Transit, the Airport Express bus to downtown, and the bus systems of other Greater Toronto Area cities. Severe traffic congestion in some areas, particularly in downtown Toronto, would not be a surprise. Delays to those non-TTC buses are therefore a possibility as well. This article is cross-posted; followups are directed to misc.transport. urban-transit. I intend to post again to both newsgroups when the strike ends or if it is canceled or delayed before it starts. -- Mark Brader "Could you please continue the petty bickering? Toronto I find it most intriguing." -- Data ("Haven", ST:TNG, Tracy Torme) My text in this article is in the public domain. |
