Mexico abruptly suspends Aerocalifornia flights
Hundreds of travelers in Tijuana had to scramble for new flights after
Mexican aviation officials suspended operations of Aerocalifornia, a low-cost airline that flies to 22 Mexican cities and Los Angeles. The airline shut down abruptly Sunday after Mexico's Civil Aviation Department announced the closure, saying the agency "has determined that this airline no longer guarantees that operations meet safety standards." [...] One inspection showed the airline had a third of its fleet grounded and was taking parts from the decommissioned airplanes to keep others operating, the department said. When Aerocalifornia will resume service is unclear, but the federal aviation agency has given the company 90 days to address its "systemic" safety problems or risk losing its license to operate.
