Default Orange phone in France?

Hello. My wife and I are visiting France from December 26 to January
17. I have an Orange phone I bought in Munich two years ago, and I
believe I should be able to use it in France. Does anyone know where
in CDG (Terminal2 arrival) I might be able to buy a pre-paid French
Orange SIM, or what chain of stores, etc. I might look in elsewhere?

Thanks -- Larry

You can get them in tabacs, especially the 'SFR' ones.

If it's a German Orange phone, will it work with a French Orange SIM
without unlocking?

Depends on whether it really is 'locked'. Mine was locked to Orange, and I
got it unlocked, and now use SFR PAYG cards.

Was it an 'official' (by Orange) unlocking? Or did you use an
independent? We have 3 Orange phones (UK), and I've been wondering whether
it might be worth having at least one of them unlocked.

Besides the syphilis, why don't you have a monthly account? ;-)

In France, an operator is required to unlock your phone when you ask them
to do, providing that you've been a customer for six months or more [1].
However, Orange dragged their feet so much, and my old phone was broken,
that I just went to the Cours de Vincennes, in Paris's 12e, and paid 20 EUR
to get it unlocked on the spot.

Because it costs too much, and I'm a poor civil servant. Aside from that,
I send enormous numbers of SMSs per month, and would only 'explose' my
forfait.

I don't think the UK has such a law. Oh, well, I guess 20EUR isn't such a
bad price.

Actually, a lot of people on contract would probably save money if they
went back to PAYG. Most contracts are not good value, and the actual per
minute price for calls can work out quite expensive. Depends on what you
use the phone for, too. In the UK, there are come 'contracts' with PAYG
pricing- so you don't worry about topping up.
