I had this too recently. It seems to be new. I arrived from HKG and wanted
to go to B (not leave the transit area). All of a sudden there was an
improvised security check. Maybe due to the football thing?!

These explanations do not quite make sense for me, but who said that
the security procedures needed to be logical? Passengers connecting

I guess it's a new rule that transit passengers are to be checked again
in Europe. To be implemented soon, and already partly implemented.
