what would have happened?
I had a flight on SWA from BWI to MDW with a 35 minute layover to OAK.
Yes I know it was tight and that was my choice. The originating flight left and arrived late. The arrival gate was at the very far tip of terminal A. Naturally, the outbound gate was near the very end of terminal B and the flight was already boarding when I de-planed. I ran through the terminals and about 100 yards from the B gate heard myself being paged to "report immediately". Finally, I ran panting down the jetway. The gate agent was at the door of the plane and she said to one of the FA's: "here he is". Then she verified that. They had to remove a couple who I assume were standbys for me and flying together. There are many, many people who could not have run through the airport as I did. What would have happened in that case? Or if they were in the back of the plane when we de-planed from the originating flight. Fortunately I was near the front. SWA obviously knew I was on the originating leg. Would they have just taken off if it had taken an additional 5 or so, maybe 10 minutes for people to get from A to B? The distance wasn't trivial. Perhaps 1/2 mile? Perhaps more. (I'm sure some folks in this group will know.) |
