PPS Travel office in Pleasant hill,CA will be closing permanently as
of 12/05/2003. A reservations center in Denver, CO will handle all
future travel requests.

Do you assume that he is in the US, or in a country that write the date
in the correct order? Why should we assume that CA is California and not
Canada?

The OP clearly said "PPS Travel office in Pleasant hill,CA" I know of no
Pleasant Hill Canada, but I do know of a Pleasant Hill California.

I haven't heard of either, and I am sure that many people on this
newsgroup haven't also. I don't even understand why he felt the need to
mention on an internation newsgroup that some obscure travel agency was
closing an office.

Don't forget that it means May 3, 2012 in China and other countries
that use Chinese characters.....

Actually, that's the most logical way of ordering dates...largest
units first, smallest last.
