Default Over 200 Caribbean cruise ship passengers take ill

I am amazed that Steinbrenner, the noted cruise basher, failed to report
this.

MIAMI, March 4 (Reuters) - More than 200 passengers on a Royal Caribbean
cruise ship and several crew members took ill with a stomach virus during
a weeklong cruise, the Miami-based company said on Saturday.

The CDC has been notified and is investigating. Their numbers are
lower, but are also a few days old as of this report date.

Just for fun, go to Google News http://news.google.com/nwshp?ned=us and type
"norovirus" in the search box.

Seems like there are outbreaks in Burlington County, NJ..... Brisbane,
Australia..... Minnessota.... Chicago.....

In a place close to Philadelphia, 1400 students and 21 teachers were absent
from school the last week of February
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/13978956.htm

Then there are the 300 elementary school kids in South Carolina who got sick
this week.
http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/mld...l/14022712.htm

Of course, the difference is that when this happens on a cruise ship it has
to be reported to the CDC.

1400 kids get sick at school in PA and 300 get sick at school in SC..... no
big deal, local news at best. 200 people get sick on a cruise ship....
national news. vbg

Oh so true, George.

I pointed out the CDC/VSP link only to show that the outbreak was not
being "hidden" by Royal Caribbean.

Yes. Norovirus is everywhere. It is unfortunate that it only makes
headlines on the world level when associated with cruise ships.

Steve------not about to stop cruising --- just staying away from
school :-)

The cruise lines always say a passenger brought the virus on board, but i
am sure it was something on the ship,we have found dirty underwear
beneath our bed,and in the drawers of the night table. Also it is not
just on ships, washington township,in new jersey just had an outbreak and
over 1/2 of the school was absent.

The cruise lines are usually right, Annie, and no cruise ship created the
problem in Washington Twp.

You and Bill Schallers have been "fortunate" to find "stuff" under the bed
and in the drawers of the night table. We have been on almost 20 cruises
and never experienced that.

Maybe that is not one of the perks you get when you book a better cabin.

DG in cherry hill: Lucky you,not to have found the items we
mentioned, however no matter what kind of a cabin you book ,it should be
clean, and no body elses dirty laundry left there

It wasn't the dirty under pants & sox under bed on Rotterdam , but the
fact that i found them while packing to go home on the last night of a
10 day cruise!
I guess our cabin steward didn't clean very well !

Couldn't resist one more post.

BILL
