It isn't clear if the whale was dead before the incident or

Seriously, there's about two whale strikes a year, mostly cargo vessels. Most of the reports I've seen say that the whale was apparently dead before it was hit. Not sure how they determine this. But this was a fin whale, which doesn't pod. |

Whales 'sleep' by shutting off one half of their brain at a time. Hence
when they 'doze' they often float on the surface, only for short periods, but it does leave them susceptible to being hit by ships. -- called logging |
