flying and money for a big guy
hey everyone
this summer i might be flying to singapore for a year of education abroad. In this respect Ill have a very limited budget for flying. I am also 6'5" and 220 lbs so space is also a premium. If anyone has any recomenations on what airlines offer the best deals on seats that may fit me, I would greatly appreciate it. thank you schneiderman |

That way you can stretch out. Bulkheads are awful for us tall folk (I'm 6'5" too). Can't straighten the legs at all; in many cases the knee is even smaller than a 90-degree angle, which gets really uncomfortable after a while. I prefer a normal seat to a bulkhead. miguel -- Hit The Road! Photos and tales from around the world: http://travel.u.nu |

Try asking an Internet travel agent (or, if they will tell you, the
airline itself) for the seat pitch on the airlines of your choice. Standard is about 31 inches. Thai and Malaysian both have 33 inches and I expect Singapore Airlines does too. It's surprising what a difference those 2 inches make if you are sitting for 12 hours plus. Avoid BA and, probably most US and European airlines. Other than that, avoid a bulkhead seat and try to pre-book an exit row although most airlines wont do that without having sight of you (something to do with making sure that you are able-bodied and able to help in an emergency). The problem with both bulkhead and exit row seats is that they usually have the tray table built into the arm rest which means the seat is 1-2 inches narrower. In addition, quite often emergency row seats don't recline. |
