The Euro at $1.55

Following up to vid Horne, _the_ chancellor St Pancras for instance. Yes, indeed- nice to see it renovated too. Others of note in the UK for me include Liverpool Lime Street, York, Manchester Piccadilly (very good facelift IMO), London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads. (Most London stations are interesting to me- the disgusting Euston notwithstanding.) the Euston vandalism and crap design are a disgrace as is the frontage stuck on Kings X, Yes, though the platforms and main roof are good. I seem to remeber York was good, Wonderful curving platforms and roofing. cant remeber anything nice about Paddington except the bear. Can't go wrong with Brunel. It's been modernised a bit, but the inside is still impressive I think. For foreign stations, many come to mind too. Particularly fond of some in the US- Philadelphia's 30th Street, Washington's Union Station, and of course, NYC's Grand Central. Like several of the Parisian termini, Madrid's Atocha, Lisbon's very modern Oriente, Budapest's Keleti. and so on. ive only been to the gare du nord! The council etc. are really sleeping in letting Manchester's Victoria fall into ruin. (It's not ruined yet, but it will be without improvements.) It's quite a gem, even if marred by having a concert arena practically built on top of it. Just up the road from me, Manchester Central (now a convention centre) always impresses. does the council have control? The short answer is yes, though as always, it's more complicated than that, especially with the fragmentation of the railways etc. My least favourite UK main station is Birmingham's New Street. Probably no surprise there- though it's pretty good for 'faciities' being below a major shopping centre. havent even been to Birmingham, its the worst place on the motorway system (or was before refeif road). Ironically, as a pedestrian, Birmingham seems almost destroyed by roads, which smash through the centre or the city. This was seen as progress at the time. New Street station is going to be renovated, which will probably be extremely disruptive. (Manchester Piccadilly was a mess during the work done, though I think it's been worth it.) Best road in UK: Hardnott Pass, Cumbria Some of the worst (in terms of accidents) are in very pretty parts of the country- the nearby Buxton-Macclesfield road for example, and a few in Scotland IIRC. -- (*) of the royal duchy of city south and deansgate -www.davidhorne.net (email address on website) "If people think God is interesting, the onus is on them to show that there is anything there to talk about. Ironically, as a pedestrian, Birmingham seems almost destroyed by roads, which smash through the centre or the city. This was seen as progress at the time. there was a lot of that at one time, sadly. They should have bulit the M6 where the relief road is now and with only one exit for Brum. Best road in UK: Hardnott Pass, Cumbria Some of the worst (in terms of accidents) are in very pretty parts of the country- yeah OK trains are safer shrug I wasn't making that comparison. the nearby Buxton-Macclesfield road for example, and a few in Scotland IIRC. that's a *main* road you're talking about. I know. I'm talking about the sort of road drivers like. I know. I was simply observing that some of the most dangerous roads are in pretty areas. Our Sovereign isn't above the Law; she IS the Law. My solution to this - and I am definitely not a fan of Phil - would be to deport the odious Fayed. He has applied for British citizenship on at least 3 occasions and has been rejected every time.
