MSC Cruises officially accepted delivery of the 90,000-ton MSC Musica in a
ceremony Monday at Aker Yards France in St. Nazaire. Present were shipyard
President Patrick Boissier, shipowner Gianluigi Aponte and MSC Crociere CEO
Pierfrancesco Vago. Also attending was French film star Gerard Depardieu,
who is very popular in Italy; Karl Erik Kjelstad, president and CEO of Aker
Yards in Finland; and Ela Aponte, daughter-in-law of Gianluigi Aponte and
the ceremonial godmother of the ship's delivery. Since Saturday, almost
25,000 shipyard workers and their relatives and families visited the ship.
The new flagship of the Italian line, the MSC Musica carries the latest and
most advanced technology developed by Chantiers de l'Atlantique/Aker Yards
France. About 80 percent of the cabins have ocean views and the majority has
balconies. Soon after the delivery ceremony, the MSC Musica was to sail
toward Venice, where on June 29 it will be officially launched and godmother
Sophia Loren will officially name the ship. The ship will leave Venice for
its first Mediterranean cruise, visiting ports in Greece, Turkey and
Croatia. The MSC Musica is the first of five ships commissioned by MSC
Cruises from Aker Yards France to be delivered over a period of three years.
The next delivery will be the MSC Orchestra, followed by the MSC Poesia and
MSC Fantasia in 2008 and the MSC Serenata in 2009. For more information,
