St. Pancras in London (UK) is the most beautiful, followed by Grand Central Station in New York City (USA), and Chhatrapati Shivaji station in Mumbai (India). The American weekly made a ranking of what it considers to be the most beautiful train stations in the world. (Belga) Antwerp Central is fourth on the list. The article is entitled 'Stations: A Destination That Matches the Journey'. "Among the many fine sights to be seen while travelling by train, few are as pleasantly surprising as the terminals one passes through," writes Newsweek. you can't travel by train through a terminal It didn't say one passes through the terminals on the train though did it? I can hear the thunderous stampede of uk.railway denizens (one in particular) heading this way chanting "beauty, beauty, what about being user friendly" with regards to St. Pancras! I like it, but then again I don't have to use the tacked on Midland platforms regularly, nor do I have to walk from the Midland or Thameslink platforms down to the Underground station every morning. just good exercise ! and isn't it fun getting cut up by people with roller luggage... I particularly enjoy the crush when squeezing thru the doorway that separates the tube and rail |

I was wondering when the Farmers Market was going to appear. Maybe never in the current economic climate. It also seems to be developing "the longest white elephant in Europe" if champagne patronage is as normally as low as when I've wandered past recently. -- Roland Perry |

Or use the toilets opposite the E* exits - male seems more often closed "for necessary maintenance"[1] than open, and the Ladies has had a queue out of the door since the station opened. [1] As opposed to unnecessary maintenance, I suppose. -- Roland Perry |

Probably waiting for the extra footfall that will arrive in December with the Kent Electrics and the northern ticket hall. Currently the area where the Farmers Market will be is a tumbleweed zone. -- Roland Perry |

The Top Nine 1) St.Pancras, London (UK) Must go there on my next London visit. 2) Grand Central Terminal, New York (USA) This one I've seen. Very similar to the main station in Milan isn't it? 9) Atocha Station, Madrid (Spain) I've seen it from the outside and maybe passed through the subway parts. Didn't make much of an impression. No space on the list for Berlin? With its open multiple levels, it's quite an experience. |
