My first thought was Irish and Scots gaelic (they don't seem to be the same according to the URL below). That, and quite a few others not on your list can be found here, with a (very) few sound samples too. http://www.omniglot.com/language/phrases/christmas.htm -- David Horne- http://www.davidhorne.net usenet (at) davidhorne (dot) co (dot) uk http://homepage.mac.com/davidhornecomposer http://soundjunction.org |

My first thought was Irish and Scots gaelic (they don't seem to be the same according to the URL below). They are most definitely different, as are Welsh, Cornish, Manx (was that there!) and Breton. A similar root (as 'Germanic' etc.) but genuinely different languages, not just dialects. All but Cornish and Manx are, of course, also genuinely 'live' (as opposed to resuscitated). Suirreyman |

Oh, I know that Irish and Scots gaelic are different languages, but from my limited knowledge of the Scots gaelic (I don't claim to speak it, but I learned about it for a while), I've noticed some similarities in various phrases and words, that's all. Manx was there BTW. -- David Horne- http://www.davidhorne.net usenet (at) davidhorne (dot) co (dot) uk http://homepage.mac.com/davidhornecomposer http://soundjunction.org |

My first thought was Irish and Scots gaelic (they don't seem to be the
same according to the URL below). Here we have Welsh gaelic: Gallese - Nadolig llawen a blwyddyn newydd dda (Sorry that the languages names are in Italian in that list) That, and quite a few others not on your list can be found here, with a (very) few sound samples too. http://www.omniglot.com/language/phrases/christmas.htm Interesting. Thanks! I wish you... how to say it? ;-) |

The Gaelic and Brythonic language families are related. Nollaig shona agus athbhlian faoi mhaise duit. -- PB The return address has been MUNGED |
