We also used valuetrips.com in October and stayed at Amerisuites on 17th St.
for $79.00. It was a suite with King size bed, sofa, fridge, microwave,
sink, and was very clean. We were picked up within minutes at the airport
and bought to the hotel, same thing next morning going to the ship. The
least expensive on their website is $249. They have a lot of Florida hotels
on the valuetrips site.

Has anyone ever stayed at the Best Western Marina Inn a Yacht Harbor In

Fort
Lauderdale? We'd like to hear your pros and cons about it. Also, the Ramada
Plaza Beach Resort. Any comments? We will be flying in a day or two early
and are looking for a nice place to stay. Thanks, Julie

Marriott Harbor Beach is maybe the best place to stay in Ft. L.

It's where the New York Yankees stay when they come to south Florida. We
saw all their luggage there.... though the players kept out of sight.

The best place in the area is a little bit out of the way but well worth
it.
The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood is a terrific resort.
500 rooms, 86 acres, 130,000 sq. ft. casino (slots, poker, and bingo
only), about 20 clubs, bars, and restaurants on site.
Huge pool, great spa, great view from every room.
World class yet affordable.

We are staying at the Embassy Suites for one night, 2/12/06, after
our cruise and have heard nothing but good reports about it. I am not
concerned about the price, we are getting the night free using points.

My question is when did you stay there and what was it that
disappointed you about Embassy Suites???

I have stayed at Amerisuites also with no problems but lately I have
been reading a lot of negative reviews of the hotel. I think that they
changed hands recently and the new ownership is not up to snuff yet. I
think Hilton owns them now but don't hold me to that.

Sue,
I've also stayed there and my visit must have been the exception to the
rule because I read mostly good reviews about the place.
When I stayed there our room carpets were just cleaned and soaking wet
as well as the sofa. They switched us with no problem.
In another room we had the mini fridge kept leaking and the carpet was
soaked right in front of it. Nothing was done in the 3 days we stayed
there to fix it. We kept putting towels on the rug to soak up some of
the water and when housekeeping came they just left them laying there.
My son also slept on the sofa and the housekeeper didn't touch that.
Just left the blankets laying there.

My inlaws were in another room and there toilet overflowed at least 3
times. Every time they came to look at it they used a plunger and left.
Next time they used it overflowed again. Finally the 3rd time they used
a snake and did it right. This was at 4am.

One last negative thing. Someone took advantage of the free happy
hour(s) and overdid it. Got sick in the glass elevator. My wife reported
it immediately. They came and cleaned the carpet in the elevator but
didn't clean the glass part the person got sick all over. It was finally
cleaned on the last day we were there.

This was in the summer of 2004.

The free made to order breakfast and the happy hour were great as well
as the pool area. The Mexican restaurant across the street is very good
also. There is also an Outback Steakhouse right across the street.

Thanks Bill, I guess all I can hope is that we have better luck then
you did.

I knew about the breakfast and heard it is very good. Also heard the
happy hour is good, but after a weeks cruise, I am not sure we will
want anymore to drink. Oh well, I can't drink any booze right
now(pout). Glad to know about the two restaurants, thanks.

Sue,

I also stayed at the Embassy Suites a
few years ago. Everything was fine
except for a woman at the ?concierge
desk who seemed to think she was better
than some of the guests. She was very
terse any time I spoke with her and she
also insisted on correcting my
pronunciation of certain words. I also
called their courtesy shuttle for a
pickup from the the convention center
and it never showed up, twice. I've
stayed at several other Embassy Suites
and have been satisfied with all of them.

Thanks Marsha! Kevin often stays at Embassy Suites when he travels,
but not in Florida and he has always been happy with them. If we can't
get the shuttle from the pier or to the airport the next morning, cab
fare isn't all that bad.

OK, I -will- post the list;

Here's what $270 plus tax (plus $7 to park) bought at Embassy Suites:
Huge wind so automatic doors were turned off - but no human to help
people with bags, etc.
Sloppy cleaning including trash left in the room, and a complaining
comment card from a previous guest.
Dripping faucet and no light in the shower room - but no engineering
staff to fix things.
Only decaf coffee left by room cleaner, and we didn't discover it till
3:30AM.
The hospitality hour served the worst wine we've had in an Embassy
Suites, and it was with potato chips and popcorn - not hors d'ouvres.

Restaurant:
No maitre de or waiter at 9:00 - we walked around until we found someone
to seat us. Food was abominable (we ordered ribeye steaks, which were
1/2" thin and tough). The order was wrong TWICE, and we finally gave up
and accepted it. The restaurant bill was $60 - we drank water.

We checked in at 9:30PM and left at 4AM to turn in our car and catch an
early flight, so there was no one at the desk to whom we could voice
these issues. 6.5 hours, about $46 per hour plus food.... a very poor
bargain.

But I've forgotten most of our complaints, and my wife is not with me to
contribute her recollections.... there were more. We wrote to Hilton -
let's see what they do, if anything.

Hmmmph!
