Default air fares up or down?

Does any body have an informed opinion on whether or not air fares to cental
europe, Praha, will drop between now and the end of may? Right now they are
more than twice as high as I have paid in the last 6 years. Lowest round
trip SFO to PRG that I can find are over $800.

I'm leaving June 2 or 3 returning June 7 or 8.

That seems like a reasonable price for the dates and frankly I'm highly
skeptical that you've gotten SFO-PRG-SFO for $400 in June in the past.

Fares will increase from here on.
Consolidators are nearly sold out in June.

Consider SFO-LON and take a low fare carrier to PRG for pocket change or
maybe SFO - FRA MUC or VIE if a better price is available.

The general economics behind airline pricing suggests that as you get
closer to the departure date, the cost of tickets goes up.

Two principle reasons. First, advance purchase discounts begin to
disappear at 28, 21, 14, and 7 days prior. Second, the inventory of
discounted tickets shrinks as more people buy leaving only higher cost
tickets as the departure date gets closer.

There are only two possible anomalies in this regard and that is if
unsold inventory is high, more tickets will be released at lower fares
(but not below the lowest fare, usually) and a price war.

Neither of these is likely during summer months and travel to Europe
under the current inventory constraints.

But - then again...
