Johnny House quoted Associated Press:
Delta said that if Bush signs the relief legislation it believes it can
emerge from Chapter 11
without terminating its non-pilot pension plan, because that plan does
not
have a lump sum feature.

Delta is THROUGH - and so are several other older airlines; realize
this. Washington isn't going to keep giving airlines bailouts when
they lose money with no end in sight. After all, Washington ALREADY
gave the airlines a bailout after 9/11; how many more bailouts do you
think it will give them? Even Chrysler only got one bailout!

With hundred-buck-a-barrel oil on the horizon, all the airlines will soon be
going down in flames, and if it ever goes much beyond that, only the rich
will be flying, mostly charters from the East to the Left Coast and back.

With that level of fiscal perspicacity and such a broad grasp of economics
and the aviation marketplace, it's no wonder that you have your entire
retirement nest egg in Enron Common, collect and restore Yugos for sale to
collectors and are likely to become the next Finanjce Minister of Zimbabwe.

Guess you haven't been seeing the news about the new smaller jets, with
only 5 or 6 passengers, that are the future of airline transportation.

Sorry Mr. Republican, but you will also be one of the people going
down in flames. When - not if - oil hits $100 / barrel, jobs will start
to disappear even faster than during George "call me Herbert Hoover"
Bush's reign of incompetence. We have real solutions for the oil
crisis - E85, better public transport, preventing China from making
deals with Canada for their oil sands, etc. - but Bush and his oil
buddies won't allow it.

Public transportation only makes sense, and the possibility ( although
rarely achieved even so ) of paying for itself is for cities where
population density is high and a great many people are going to the same
general location. Outside of major metropolitan areas, public
transportation is unworkable and nothing more than another welfare program
for the poor and the lazy.

Another problem with public transportation, and even car-pooling, is
that it significantly reduces ones freedom of movement and activity. It
also gives the terrorists great targets of opportunity.

Outside of major metropolitan areas

Who said anything about that? Any dolt knows that light rail or
a metro only work in medium to large cities.

nothing more than another welfare program for the poor and the lazy

Oh yes, much better to keep them on the roads driving the only thing
they can afford, unsafe rustbuckets.

It also gives the terrorists great targets of opportunity.

So do huge lines of drivers stuck in gridlock because ignorant
people like you demand to drive everywhere. Not to mention the
fact that your philosophy keeps us beholden to the Arab countries
where those terrorists live.

LOL! I guess you flunked economics and weren't bright enough
for any engineering classes. How is a large number of small planes
going to be cheaper than a smaller number of large efficient airplanes?
I guess YOU have not paid attention to those same news reports
that describe the market for those small planes: people with money
to burn because those flights will be much more expensive, albeit
going point-to-point. Not to mention the fact that today's ATC
cannot handle that traffic. You really have to stop listening to Rush
for your facts.

Did you know that Sheryl Mexic (who infamously posted here years ago)
used to work for Enron legal, TM?
