Default Travel insurance

Hi,

Im travelling from the UK to Australia and dont really know what to do
about travel insurance. Also, what does this cover you against -
health, baggage etc? Ive also heard that the WHM visa provides a
medicare card. Is it still recommeded that I take out insurance that
covers health?

Thanks

Burnsy

It would be very foolish not to take out travel insurance for many reasons.
Check out NRMA, MBF and see what they have to offer. It's up to you what you
want. There are many more choices if you do a Google.

Medicare's good (National Health) but doesn't cover teef and things. You
should hop on the web, stick "travel insurance" into google (and maybe
tell it you're from the UK) and see what pops up. I've found buying travel
insurance on the web amazingly cheap, same policy an agent wanted $600
for, a mob called Travel Nomads had for half that.

UK insurers will know that you get medicare coverage in Australia, and
should be taking that into account. Lloyds have a very widespread product,
from memory.

Insurance covers health, and travel stuff like stuffups, problems,
enforced cancellations etc. Baggage is kind-of covered. If you have exxy
gear, they want you to list it, and they charge you more to cover it.

If you're working, ensure the insurance covers that - some don't.

One more point. Outpatient and other hospital services require up front
payments of $90.00. to overseas travellers.Regardless of Medicare.

If you are a British citizen from the UK - you will be covered by Medicare
under a reciprocal agreement, for necessary treatment for conditions which
start in Australia.

All hospitals treat everyone who presents with serious conditions, or in an
emergency; but if you are not covered by Medicare they will try to recoup
some of the cost of your treatment from you.

Dental care is outside Medicare - and waiting lists for free dental care for
adults are very lengthy - school children receive free dental care.
