Hotel twix Ft Lauderdale & Miami
We are flying into Ft Lauderdale on 3/27 and leaving on a cruise ship
3/29 from the Port of Miami. We are trying to figure out if it is cheaper to stay at a hotel near the Ft Lauderdale airport and take the shuttle to Miami ($21 pp-2 people) or to find a hotel along the way and rent a car ($100-150 for 2 days one way). Any suggestions on which way to do this. What are reasonably price hotels along the way (clean, safe). Are there any decently priced hotels near the FLL airport or in town that offer shuttles to the airport (to get the shuttle to the Port of Miami). Also, we will be in FLL for 1.5 days both ways. What are some things to do there and how is public transportation if we do not rent a car. Thank you in advance for any and all help/friendly advice. Deb |

You should be able to rent a car way cheaper than that. Try Royal or Budget or Dollar. We rented a car in Tampa from Dollar, and when we turned it in in Miami there was a free shuttle to the port. We dropped the luggage off at the ship first and then turned the car in so that we didn't have anything but our carryons with us for the shuttle to the port. I don't know if Royal does that or not, but we rented from Royal in Ft Lauderdale and turned in the car in Miami. It was about $25.00/day plus maybe an extra $15 for one way rental and the usual fees (10% privilege fee, $2.40/Day state surcharge, $3.95 Day Center Facility charge and 6% tax). Three days was $123.37. It would be less for you because you only want 2 days. |

There is an art museum, Las Olas Blvd. has shopping. There is a historical museum with buildings that are old, for Ft. Lauderdale, and there is the Stranahan House. There is a trolley which we haven't used and the water taxi which we did. It was interesting but a cab or car would be a lot faster. We did like the narration and learned a lot. There are other boat trips of the area. |
