Earl About the same temps are expected up in Denmark later this week -from 25=B0C and maybe even up to 30=B0C next weekend. But that of course raises the question of air conditioning . Just wondering if anyone in this group would have any opinion on this ? Kristian Here in Shropshire (west-central England) the forecast is for 22 on Friday, about time too. However I can't be certain it'll be right, those 5-day forecasts often aren't. Most years we get the first 70F (21C) here in late April or early May, this year has been the latest since (so far) 1996.=20 Edmund |

With my allergies I can't smell at all. Har, har. But not to kid, since body odor is caused by bacteria spawning in the liquid sweat and sweaty dampness on your body, and since in Arizona the humidity is so low that you rarely have bacteria-promoting sweat on your body, one generally doesn't smell that bad at all. ************* DAVE HATUNEN ) ************* * Tucson Arizona, out where the cacti grow * * My typos & mispellings are intentional copyright traps * |

(I felt 52C in central Oz once, and was incapacitated) The hottest I have a nasty memory of was in Los Angeles, California, 46C. Circumstances have a lot to do with my memory of this heat, however. We were living in a small apartment without air conditioning, and because I had a bladder infection, my doctor had told me to take baths as hot as I could stand. I was hot, hot, hot! Miserable! It's at the point when my joints start throbbing that I give up. The only relief I could find was with the coldest beer I could find - and lots of it. The most important thing was eating the occasional bit of food too, as the brain does some funny things when your salt levels drop. -- --- DFM - http://www.deepfriedmars.com --- -- |

Having lived my life (except for 2 years in California) in climates with very hot weather in the summers, hot and humid as well, I am grateful for air conditioning when temperatures warrant using it. That said, I use it as little as possible. A good summer is one when air conditioning use can be kept to the minimum. I am old enough to remember summers with no air conditioning and the many measures we had to take in extreme heat. And I don't care for air conditioning kept at a frosty level. Just enough to remove humidity from the air and keep one reasonably comfortable. Yep. Nothing worse than walking into 20C(68F) from 40C(104F), then out again. It's a shock to the system in both directions. And also leads to a bloody expensive electricity bill. I keep it at 30C(86F) when it's hotter than that outside, never less than 25C if I bother to have it on when it's over 25C outside. I do occasionally, but only if it's excessively humid. Cheers, Alan, Australia |
