Funny. The guide in Pompeii said they had graffiti on the walls there
-- long before the Mayflower..... Keith W wrote: wrote in message oups.com... Just returned from 20 days in Italy. Wonderful scenery and excellent historical sites. Good wine and good food. But.... Museums close on Mondays and have surprise strikes. Sure wish they understood who butters their bread -- the tourists. Trains and buses are frequently late. The casual attitude was cute at first but they need a little "profit motive." Ahh, but the real Italian capitalists are the gelato vendors -- anywhere from 2.5 Euros to 8! How about all those quaint little hotels and B&B's -- cute but not 120 euros per night cute. It sure was nice to return to good ol' USA where the capitialist have actually created a clean, efficient society with a lot less graffiti. You have to be kidding, the craze for grafitti came from the USA in the first place and I saw plenty of it Ohio and California when I lived there One rock in Cinque Terre had spray painted on it, "Yankee, take your liberal capitalism home." Hmmm. that individual must not be involved in the tourism industry. (Not sure about his/her use of the word "liberal.") He should get to know some Italian taxi drivers, they are the scum of the earth -- at least those that accost you at the Rome train station. Never will they quote the same price. I got cheated twice before I learned. Italians seem to have a love-hate relationship with tourists: they love the money bet hate the rest. All tourist destinations have that, I know I have lived in several Keith ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

Des Small wrote: I'm not Italian but I've grown unfond of you already, and for free! Des Hmm. Because you disagree with me? Want to be around like-thinkers do you? Or maybe you don't beleive in "liberal" capitialism, the thing that has produced 99% of all new inventions, medicines, and other like wonders and yet has produced no more povery or inequities than socialism or communism..... Maybe you love Italy and can't tolerate any criticims of it. Whatever, the reason I am not hurt that you are unfond of me (free or not). Cheers anyway. |

There is graffitti on the walls of caves inhabited by Neanderthals but the craze for street gangs tagging anything and everything came from New York city in the 60's Keith ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |
