Default Ottawa & vicinity

I'll be in Ottawa for some meetings in mid-November. As they begin on
Tuesday, I was thinking of arriving Sunday night to spend Monday touring the
city. Is it like many places where much is closed on Mondays? Any
suggestions on what to see either that Monday, during the week (on the
off-chance that my meetings end early)? How about evenings? I'll be
staying downtown and will have a car.

Will the canal be frozen over for ice skating that early on in the season?
Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks,

Sarah

I doubt if the canal will be frozen over. It is possible to have freezing
weather in Ottawa during November, but not enough for skating. There is only
skating for about a month and a half in the middle of winter.

There are lots of museums and galleries in Ottawa but a lot of their winter
hours have them closed on Mondays. A quick Google guide for Ottawa Museums will
tell you which are open.

During the winter yes, pretty much all of the museums are closed Mondays.
The notable exception would the the Parliment buildings which are open
every day.

At least go and walk around Parliment Hill. The National Gallery is open
late on Thursday. Anything else really depends on your interests.

No, usually not until January or more often February.

Sarah, the Canal won't be frozen. It usually doesn't freeze over
until late December.

As for what to see, it depends on what you're interested in. The
Byward Market is always open, with plenty of boutiques, restaurants,
clubs and pubs.

Early in the work week is usually quiet time for concerts and live
bands.

Since you'll have a car, consider visiting the RCMP Musical
Ride stables and the nearby aviation museum.
