E'mail worked great for me to keep in touch... A *lot* cheaper too...
You may also place telephone calls over the net, though I have ignored this option personally as to not worry about 'scheduling' calls across time zones and personal itineraries on both ends... Prices and conditions are changing frequently, for close to all contracts and phones http://shop.handy.de/ is the link I usually start for Germany: good for a first overview on prices for both phones and contracts (including prepaid). Just be aware that calls with prepaid SIM-cards are usually expensive, international roaming extremely expensive (when available). Low-priced phones sold with prepaid SIM-cards are most of time SIM-locked. Dont expect major discounts on non-SIM-locked phones with prepaid SIM-cards. Lowest prices (even zero) for not-SIM-locked phones are usually bound to most expensive regular contracts.(longest duration and highest basic fee but lowest prices for calls) Have fun! |

In article 36,
Joseph Coulter wrote: IF you are buying a cell phone just for the trip a smart phone would seem a tad extravagent. a calling card and a land line is going to be a lot cheaper for calls unless you call home and have them call you as incoming calls on European services are free. I used to get calling cards in Germany, but last time I did that, I discovered card phones were getting harder to find 8-( -- Mary Loomer Oliver (aka Erilar), biblioholic medievalist There is no such thing as too many books.
