Some cruise lines will allow this and some don't. I suggest you check
with your travel agent and let him know your preference. He can make
sure you do not book a cruise line that would not allow you to remove
your gratuities such as Cunard.

My guess is that if you give Cunard enough business and complain enough
they will take the charge off your bill. If you booked a suite for the
world cruise every year and say you will never cruise with Cunard again
unless they remove that charge from your bill, I think they will remove it.

they will take the charge off your bill. If you booked a suite for the
world cruise every year and say you will never cruise with Cunard again

I know Carnival will remove them. I have done that on 2 cruises.

I am sure you are correct. I would not like to be that person after
you did it the first time. I am sure the crew would make sure that
was your last world cruise. ;+)

Hi All,

I obviously forgot to include the post from Odysseus, in which he "guessed"
that Cunard would remove the auto charged tips when requested by a passenger
that booked the Ownwer's Suite for the World Cruise each year, and threatened
to never book with them again if the tips were not removed. My response to
that post is above.

to be automatically charged to his account

As I have said before, I usually tip more than the recommended amount. I
just resent the automatic tipping. I would think that the staff would
prefer to get their tips in cash since there is no record of it. I know
the staff in US restaurants prefer to get tips in cash.

I and other agents have discussed this before with crew. It has been
reported here on r.t.cruises by some of the regulars that the crew
said they preferred this system. All of the ones that I have spoken
prefer the system where the company collects from all of the
passengers. I am sure there may be some who don't but this is the
current system.

I guess if you are working on a cruise far from home with limited
space in your quarters you may prefer this system. If you are on
land where you can take the cash and buy goods and take them home with
no records for any taxing body you might prefer tips in cash.

Jewelry stores in Las Vegas make cash sales to people who have been
lucky at the tables.

I know Carnival will remove them. I have done that on 2 cruises.


They will remove them, but they sure put up a struggle. Even if you tell them
you just want to do it yourself. My love affair with Carnival was really
tested on my last cruise. I will go back, but after a few cruises with someone
else.
