Another 737 goes down
But it's an -800 model, not a Max:

It never made it above 8,000 feet, crashing just minutes after takeoff, according to data from the flight-tracking website FlightRadar24. "Qassem Biniaz, a spokesman for Iran's Road and Transportation Ministry, said it appeared a fire erupted in one of its engines and the pilot lost control of the plane, according to the state-run IRNA news agency." https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/202...ane-crash.html |

Gee. Exactly the area where a heat seeking anti aircraft missile would hit. -- __________________________________________________ ___ Knowledge may be power, but communications is the key [to foil spammers, my address has been double rot-13 encoded] |

Gee. Exactly the area where a heat seeking anti aircraft missile would hit. Fired by whom? In what scenario would someone in Iran shoot down a civilian plane from a third country that had just taken off from the Teheran airport? It's far more likely to have been a bird strike or maintenance issue. Press releases from Ukrainian airlines say that the plane was registration number UR-PSR and it had last had routine maintenance on Monday at its home airport in Kyiv. -- Regards, John Levine, , Primary Perpetrator of "The Internet for Dummies", Please consider the environment before reading this e-mail. https://jl.ly |

Then again, there was TWA 800 just a few weeks after 9/11 which exploded and crashed just after takeoff from JFK. -- __________________________________________________ ___ Knowledge may be power, but communications is the key [to foil spammers, my address has been double rot-13 encoded] |

Interesting what-could-have-been: Unabomber Ted Kaczynski was arrested on April 3, 1996. TWA flight 800 blew up on July 17, 1996. Had Kaczynski not been arrested, as he had been in the prior 19 years, guess where the fingers would have been pointing? He'd tried but failed to take down an airliner in 1979: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americ...nes_Flight_444 |
