Iraq elections vindicate GW Bush

Iraq is a violent place that is making progress towards democracy. The argument that I've made essentially since 2003 is that Iraq was possible within the context of Bush's tenure while Afghanistan was a very long term project. Had Bush simply stayed with Afghanistan alone, the situation there would be like it is today, very difficult and very slow. By looking at Iraq, the Bush administration saw a way to make progress directly in the Middle East and with an Arab country. This is vital to counter the threat of bin Ladenism. |

03/04/2010 "AFP - "Victory at Last," proclaims the magazine cover. Elections in Iraq, seven years after the US invasion, could belatedly prove former president George W. Bush right, Newsweek magazine suggests in its latest issue. Experts are divided, but acknowledge democracy is progressing in the country invaded by a US-led coalition in March 2003 to topple dictator Saddam Hussein. "Something that looks an awful lot like democracy is beginning to take hold in Iraq. It may not be 'mission accomplished' but it's a start," said Newsweek......" |

Comparing what the Indians did by rebelling against Britain, can in no
way, be compared to bombing them into submission like Bush/Cheney did Iraq. So we have God given right to spread democracy by invading and occupying sovereign nations, cause "we know what is best for them"? |

So you admit that they are forces of bin Laden? Because in another thread, Holman would have us believe that 92% of the detainees at Gitmo are not part of any effort by Osama to do bad things. Regarding whether or not bin Ladenism is alive and active in the Middle East, you bet it is. That's why it is so important to create this countervailing force for freedom. -- "It is illuminating for purposes of reflection, if not for argument, to note that one of the greatest 'fictions' of our federal system is that the Congress exercises only those powers delegated to it, while the remainder are reserved to the States or to the people. The manner in which this Court has construed the Commerce Clause amply illustrates the extent of this fiction.", Hodel v. Virginia Surface Mining, 452 U.S. 264, 307 (1981) |
