Why don't you just go to the supermarket or drug store and pay the $15 for
it? "Surfer E2468" wrote in message ... Guess i will do without the shot again this year, and if i get the flu and die, maybe my husband could sue Yesterday my wife had an appointment with her doctor at our HMO. He gave her a flu shot. When we got home, I had a message saying that I could get one on 10/20 or 10/27- just call for an appointment. Called this am- all booked up. They told me to get one wherever I could (drug store, supermarket, etc). My HMO is DOD-funded and I'm not supposed to use Medicare. So I asked if, since they can't give me a shot, can I use Medicare. Answer- no. $15 isn't a big deal, but it irks me. Paul Johnson |

Please explain - What is the big deal about paying $15? Not to be
sarcastic this is a serious question. If a flu shot is so important to you and it's a limited supply I wouldn't quibble over a few dollars. Especially since if you get the flu your going to spend at least $15 (more) in over the counter meds to suppress the symptoms. So either you pay now or you pay later. Is it just principal? Personally I don't get a flu shot. Everyone I have ever known to get one ends up with the flu. |

We would gladly pay the money for the flu shot, but when you pay for a
dr,he should be able to get the serum to give people their shots And also our neighbor went to the supermarket for his shot, and after waiting in line for 3 hours, was told that they had closed, and were not giving any more shots,he should go to another clinic. so it is not as simple as it sounds,i have more important things to do than stand in a line for hours, and then not accomplish what i stood in line for.If it comes down to that i will forgo the flu shot. |

With all the shortages in doctors that we currently have, it makes no sense
to tie up a doctor's private office with routine immunizations. If there's ANY possibility of a shortage of such things, it also makes no sense for private physicians to be put into the position of deciding who gets it. Also, imagine a doctor getting it but then not having patients come in for it because they can get it faster and cheaper elsewhere. A waste, all the way around. The situation this year is very different than the one last year. Last year there wasn't enough vaccine to go around. This year? There appears to be plenty, and lots of opportunities to get it. There are LOTS of communities where the county health department does routine immunizations for children, rather than pediatricians or general practitioners. IMO that makes much more sense. Indeed YOUR health department may well be giving flu vaccines too, it would be easy enough to find out. Whether you receive the flu vaccine this year or not is entirely up to YOU... and the only recourse you would have if you got sick is with yourself... the ONLY reason I answered you in the first place was you saying that your husband could sue if you were to become ill... sue who? you?
