Bus - Edinburgh to Glasgow Airport
In reading past posts on this subject, the preferred means of
transportation from Edinburgh to the Glasgow Airport is bus. A couple of questions: 1. Does a bus from central Edinburgh (St. Andrews Sq. Station) go all the way to Glasgow Airport, or must one change at downtown Glasgow (Buchanan St.)? 2. With regard to luggage, the two of us will each have a large, wheeled suitcase and a small backpack. Is there room on or under (in a luggage compartment) the bus for the two suitcases? If so, does driver mind opening luggage compartment for stowage of suitcases? 3. If there's no luggage accommodation on the bus, I don't see any advantage over the train - which does have a great advantage in missing traffic problems. ?? Thanks in advance for your advice and help. |

If so, does driver mind opening luggage compartment for stowage of suitcases? You can store luggage on the bus between Edinburgh and Glasgow. If I remember right, you take your luggage on board with you on the bus to the airport, but there's plenty of room. 3. If there's no luggage accommodation on the bus, I don't see any advantage over the train - which does have a great advantage in missing traffic problems. ?? Depends on the time of day- the bus is usually pretty reliable, but I''d agree, the train journey is less tedious. Taking the bus all the way might be a bit easier though. There is a stop at Queen Street station (the railway station Scotrail trains from Edinburgh arrive at in Glasgow) for the airport, should you decide on the train. I don't know about direct buses from St Andrews St Glasgow Airport, but I posted details of the reverse journey at http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...a.uk.clara.net You can either bus/rail via Paisley Gilmour Street, or get the bus into Glasgow: 1. Through bus/rail tickets are available between any station and Glasgow Airport via the Paisley Gilmour Street bus link (bus number H603). There is a Strathclyde Passenger Transport Travel Centre at Glasgow Airport. Paisley GS to Glasgow Central is about 12 minutes. Walk or bus to Glasgow Queen Street. Glasgow Queen St to Edinburgh Waverley is about 45 minutes. Standard Single fare is GBP 9.70 at the moment from Paisley GS to Edinburgh. I can't see on the Scotrail.co.uk site if that includes the airport bus to Paisley. 2. If you get the airport bus into Glasgow city centre (bus number 905) it will cost GBP 3.00 + the train fare, if ticketed as part of the train journey. (You should be able to get your train ticket at the Strathclyde Passenger Transport Travel Centre at the airport and you need to be ticketed from GLASGOW AIR XBUS to EDINBURGH. If you can't, you can get a bus only fare on the 905 bus, but it may not be GBP 3.00) Train fares Glasgow Queen St to Edinburgh: a Cheap Day Single (for use on off-peak trains) is GBP 7.80 and a Standard Single (for use at any time) is 8.60. This is probably easier as the airport bus service (no. 905) leaves from outside the Airport Terminal Building and runs to North Hanover Street outside Glasgow Queen Street station, so you will be saved changing stations and a walk through Glasgow. Bus services to the airport run approximately every 10 minutes throughout the day (Monday to Friday) and every 15 minutes (Saturday and Sunday). Further info from www.scotrail.co.uk You should be able to get the EDINBURGH to GLASGOW AIR XBUS ticket from either the main ticket office at Waverley or the ScotRail office which is currently near Plat 14.
