US vs. UA Milage Question
I'm flying transatlantic via US this Sunday (4/25). I am Gold
Preferred with US, and Premier Executive with UA. Will using my UA FF number earn me more miles (for miles into my UA account) than using my US number (for miles into my US account)? I've looked on their respective web sites, and if I understand correctly, I will get a 50% bonus as Gold Preferred using my US number, but a 100% bonus as Premier Executive using my UA number. But this isn't clear at all. Also, I have two space positive upgrade coupons, but BC is currently not available for both ocean crossings. Currently only my UA FF number is in the record. Will adding my US FF record increase my changes at the upgrade, or does my UA status "outrank" it anyway? (On my last transatlantic trip, Nov 2003, the situation was exactly the same and I ultimately got a BC seat both times -- with my US FF # (only) in the record). Thanks, Dave |

I used a US systemwide coupon to upgrade US to Europe last year, and I had to list my US FF number (not UA) to do so. |

Thanks -- and yes, I finally found a US agent who told me that the US FF# must be in the record for the upgrade to work. In the end I did get the upgrade in both directions -- in spite of the fact that my travel agent told me there was "no way" it would happen due to the discount fare she arranged. Go figure... Also, the US agent mentioned that all of this will change when US enters the Star Alliance next week. In particular, the code sharing of seats between US and UA (she called it "very clumsy") will be much cleaner. |
