I'm hoping the cruise lines will increase their use of Baltimore in
the near future. It's really easy to use. Mid-winter could bring
some iffy weather, but that leaves 9 or 10 months with a short drive
to port. Otherwise, I have to drive to N.O., Fla or Tex, all of
which are twice as far.

Harry, what about Bayonne, New Jersey or Manhattan? Both would give
you more options then Baltimore. I don't think either should be much
further then Baltimore and are much closer then N.O., Fla or Texas.

The down side, winter sailings to the Caribbean will involve more sea
days in less than optimal weather to work on your tan by the pool. On
the up side is any fall sailings to the New England coast and the fall
colors.

The brooklyn pier is not easy to get to, even when you're familiar
with the area. just ask charles!

Now it is... it's clearly marked. It's about 2 blocks away if you
take the correct exit. And they put cops there to direct traffic as
soon as you leave the highway.

Even with proper signs etc. the Staten Island Expressway, the
Verazanno Bridge and the BQE are lousy stretches of road. For the OP
the trip to the Brooklyn Pier would be a nightmare compared to the
trip to Bayonne. In Indiana the interstates move and are easy to
figure out. Kevin and I found our way from the Indy airport to Fort
Wayne without a problem and enjoyed the scenery along the way.

sue

I am surprised that no one has thought of creating a heliport near the
Brooklyn Pier. A transfer via your air carrier would circumvent all
that traffic. Ah well, I guess we have to wait for a stronger economy.
Now, is not a good time for start-up businesses even if they are
partners with large airlines.

I live in Indy, am a Ft. Wayne native and do the I-69 trek quite
often. I have NEVER noticed any scenery what so ever (at least until
they put the 50 foot Rabbit up in Anderson. (g).

I wonder if you know my son-in-laws family? For a city girl all the
corn fields and farms were relaxing to see, much better then the
scenery on most of the highways in NY and NJ.

Sue, one day when I have the capacity to digitize video, I'll send you a
video of "Rush Hour" at Mille Lacs, MN. on the reservation and right
outside the Mille Lacs casino. One vehicle passes by every 25 minutes
with nothing in between. All the gamblers get out there via casino
limo, senior bus trips or the private airport. Very few make the 90
mile drive from the Twin Cities.

Isn't the Mercury one of the oldest ships in the fleet? Or is this a

I cruised on her third sailing in December of 1996.

Hi Brian,

The Celebrity Mercury entered service in November of 1997.

Hi Charles,

Could you possibly be confusing the Mercury with the Galaxy? I
believe the Galaxy entered service in December of 1996. I believe the
Mercury entered service in November of 1997. It is early on the west
coast so I may be confused. :+)

Best regards,
Ray

There's a heliport next to the cruise dock in Victoria. Not scheduled
service, as far as I know.

For NYC, would an airport-to-pier ferry work?
