BTW, I was born in a former kingdom and live in a former republic. The
only two states that can claim true indepence prior to joining the
United States.

Hawaii was kingdom. California and Texas were independent countries
(California only briefly). And most of the native american nations
would have claimed independence before they were forcibly dissolved,
but I don't think any state was formed exclusively from the tribal
lands of exactly one tribe.

I saw a license plate yesterday issued from an Indian nation. I don't
remember which one. It was a vey nice looking tag.
