Continental to dump SkyTeam for Star Alliance

Continental is set to shake up the frequent-flier world with news that
it will defect from the SkyTeam frequent-flier alliance in favor of a
partnership with United and the Star Alliance group. Still, any change
could take some time to complete. In a filing with the Securities and
Exchange Commission, Continental says: "We expect that this transition
period will last at least a year, although it could last longer." Read
below for more details from the carrier's press release.

As an NWA World Perks member and a Sky Team loyalist, Continental was
one of my preferred choices. This news along with the NW merger with
DL aren't very encouraging signs...

This is very old news. Delta sent an email to their Skymiles members
yesterday saying Continental is out of SkyTeam on October 24, 2009.

I was thinking that I had heard about it a while ago. I never did know
how to make reservations on Continental with Delta FF miles.
We were planning a trip to Hawaii and the Continental flights might
have worked out a little better.
