So, what are your top five European cities?

Here are mine (though I haven't visited a lot of East to Northeast
countries)...

1. Barcelona
2. Edinburgh
3. Brussels
4. London
5. Florence

Brian

1.) Paris
2.) Venice (in May or June)
3.) Muenchen
4.) Salzburg
5.) Dubrovnik - Can't believe no one has mentioned this incredibly
beautiful & clean city!

In August this smelly place is so full of tourists that the fastest way to
go around is swimming in canals.

The problem with Milan is that it is in a country where almost every
place has its share of museums, cathedrals and villas, so it gets lost
in the cultural noise.

It also has an interesting medieval past, come to think of it. Perhaps
one day...

One problem with Milan is that it does not present itself very well
to a first time visitor. If you take the shuttle from the airport
you will arrive at the main central rail station, and from there it is
a least a half hour on foot to the parts of Milan , that are of
interest to the visitor.
(That is, if you don`t take the metro- recommended and inexpensive :
1.25 euro.)
I like Milan as well - a very nice and comfortable city to stroll
around in.

country, probably a must is around the Lac Leman)

do you think Mitchelin might be biased towards French food?

No, and neither is Michelin.

I still think
Manchester is up there. since the IRA bombing of 1996, the place has
reinvented itself in 8 years. I'm obviously biased.
