Default What do you think about Swedish people?

Hello!

I'm studying tourism in Sweden and for the moment I'm doing a research for a school essay. The researchs idea is to figure out what people around the world thinks about swedish people. There for a need as many as possible to answer this following questions. (Only serious answers, please!)

Thanks!

What is the first thing you think about even you hear about Sweden and Swedish people?

Before you had met someone from Sweden, what was your opinion about Swedish people?

After you had meet people from Sweden did it change your opinion about Sweden and Swedish people? In that case how?

How do Swedish people act when they visit your country?

Do you think Swedish people act different from the people in your country in that case what are they doing differently?

Jenize,

I'm giving you a serious answer, but not to the questions you ask.

I don't think your questions are well thought out, and I make comments
below.

Name:

Do you need to know this? Many people in this group do not use their
real names.

Age:

Does it matter?

Country:

What is the first thing you think about even you hear about Sweden and
Swedish people?

There can be a difference between what people think about Sweden and
about its people.

Before you had met someone from Sweden, what was your opinion about
Swedish people?

After you had meet people from Sweden did it change your opinion about
Sweden and Swedish people? In that case how?

Some people might not have met anybody from Sweden, or have had only
trivial contact with them. Others might not remember what they thought
about Swedish people long in the past.

How do Swedish people act when they visit your country?

Too vague to be answered easily! People differ greatly.

Do you think Swedish people act different from the people in your
country in that case what are they doing differently?

Again, very difficult to answer easily.

Have you discussed your questionnaire with your teachers? They might
help you get a sharper focus, and ask questions that are more easily
answered, and where you might also find it easier to deal with the
answers.

Good luck with your project. I enjoyed my one visit to Sweden, and
liked the people I met there -- well, most of them.

Blond-haired people living on perma-frost, artic like conditions. Paying
lots of taxes.

Before you had met someone from Sweden, what was your opinion about
Swedish people?

Neutral. They don't really elicit an opinion because they don't really do
anything do they?

After you had meet people from Sweden did it change your opinion about
Sweden and Swedish people? In that case how?

No, I'm still unimpressed.
How do Swedish people act when they visit your country?

I suppose they act normally.
Do you think Swedish people act different from the people in your
country in that case what are they doing differently?

No, I think they act normally, they blend in very well.

Padraig have clearly have some points. What is more though, is that
even if you are able to formulate the questions perfect - how
interesting is the phenomen that you study?

Basicly you reseach what people are 100% incompetent about the subject
you interview them about, think about the subject in question. Isn't it
more interesting to for instance ask people that acually have been
tourists in Sweden about their impressions in order to match theese
with the people that have corresponding preferences when it comes to
holidays?

Jenny, I share Padraig's misgivings about the design of your
questionnaire, but I will give you some answers anyway in case they help.
Perhaps having a few sets of answers from different people will help you
to identify the parts of the questionnaire that are too vague.

Age:

Swedish people?

My immediate word associations a water, north, blonde, light, dark. And
the word 'frisor' (why do there seem to be so many hairdressers in
Sweden?!)

Before you had met someone from Sweden, what was your opinion about
Swedish people?

Thoughtful, friendly, reserved (quiet), conservative and liberal at the
same time, English-speaking.

After you had meet people from Sweden did it change your opinion about
Sweden and Swedish people? In that case how?

When I first visited Sweden, society was more varied than I expected
(racially, dress styles, etc.). Otherwise my opinions, already favourable,
didn't change much.

How do Swedish people act when they visit your country?

Obviously I don't know the nationality of many of the visitors I meet, but
Nordic/Scandinavian people in general are notably polite, and often seem
genuinely interested in minor details of British life - not just the
obvious tourist things.

Do you think Swedish people act different from the people in your
country in that case what are they doing differently?

There are lots of minor differences, but overall I think they are quite
similar peoples. There is maybe a wider spectrum of opinion (in every
sense of the word 'opinion') or manner in the UK, which has both positive
and negative aspects.

"What is the first thing you think about even you hear about Sweden and
Swedish people?"

Hot girls, herring, vikings, socialism, Volvos, Absolut, World's
Strongest Man.

"Before you had met someone from Sweden, what was your opinion about
Swedish people?"

No particular opinion. I expect there to be all types of personalities
in Sweden, just like anywhere else.

"After you had meet people from Sweden did it change your opinion about
Sweden and Swedish people? In that case how?"

Swedes aren't all 190 cm and blonde.

"How do Swedish people act when they visit your country?"

We don't notice them here in New York. They are .0001% of the tourists
we receive.

"Do you think Swedish people act different from the people in your
country in that case what are they doing differently?"

They don't vote for idiots!

What is the first thing you think about even you hear about Sweden and
Swedish people?

Snow, blonde-haired, blue-eyed, Swedish meatballs (I love 'em), Ice
Hockey, fish, long, long winters.
Before you had met someone from Sweden, what was your opinion about
Swedish people?

Didn't have any strong opinions, really. I wasn't expecting
characters from a Bergman film.
After you had meet people from Sweden did it change your opinion about
Sweden and Swedish people? In that case how?

Didn't change, but developed my opinion. Found them to be honestly
friendly, polite and not as blonde as I had imagined.
How do Swedish people act when they visit your country?

I once met a group of touring hockey families at a tournament in the
USA. I thought that they were outgoing and eager to meet the
Americans at the game. They were good sports, and well-mannered as
were their kids. Some seemed shy about speaking English, even though
their English was excellent (especially compared to my Swedish)
Do you think Swedish people act different from the people in your
country in that case what are they doing differently?

Under what circumstances?

Modern design and lingonberries.

Before you had met someone from Sweden, what was your opinion about
Swedish people?

Not possible. I was too young to have an opinion when I frist met my
grandmother.

After you had meet people from Sweden did it change your opinion about
Sweden and Swedish people? In that case how?

Not really. They may drink and smoke a tad less than Norwegians but that's
probably only because they have less to spend on booze and cigarettes.

How do Swedish people act when they visit your country?

Better than we do.

Do you think Swedish people act different from the people in your
country in that case what are they doing differently?

Well, for one, they speak English better than we do.
