SF street names - Help
I think # 2 is Filbert looking west toward Russian Hill with St. Peter
and Paul Church on the right and Washington Square on the left. #3 may be Jones looking north toward Alcatraz. #7 is likely one of those very steep streets on Telegraph Hill heading south toward Broadway at the bottom of the street. #8 might be Lombard heading up to Coit Tower. If any of these seem wrong, I'd love to know what seems more accurate. Must be looking north towards the bay. Note that the silver car in the foreground has its wheels properly toed in to the curb, to prevent runaway, should the brakes fail. This is the law in San Francisco, you can be ticketed for not doing it. If your car is parked facing downhill, you should toe the wheels in the other direction. SF street names - Help
'scuse the snippage - just trying to keep things legible Thanks to all the people here who helped me with info on San Francisco for my holiday last April If I was one of 'em: You're welcome. You probably were so thank you again :-) SF is a place I'd like to see again Nice pictures. Thank you Numbering your photos like this: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1= Lombard Street 2= Filbert Street 3= Hyde Street No, it isn't. He thinks it's Leavenworth and so do I. 4&5= Maybe Franklin? 4= He's right to think it's Kearny Street. 5= Washington Street at Mason Street. Washington Street - I think you could be right - I assumed the shot was looking south because it's on a hill looking towards the Transamerica building - but I've just checked on a MUNI pdf that I found and Washington Street looks spot on :-) I've just realised I've been a complete doughnut with No 7 you can actually see the street in shot 4!! Hang on a mo......... If the Green Victorian building is on the corner of Columbus which I seem to remember and you go up one major road which might be Vallejo St then the next one is Green St - what say you?? The next street up is Union St which would have Washington park in the picture on the right hand side Thanks again to everyone for your help Tim |

I neglected to say that I thought it might've been Jones Street so, at the sacrifice of great time and expense, I took a lovely drive by the statue of Willy Mays at China Basin Stadium along the Embarcadero to Bay Street and looked down Jones, Leavenworth, Hyde, and Polk streets to determine to a certainty that it is, indeed, Leavenworth (couldn't see Alcatraz 'cause a ship on its way to The Bridge was in the way) before going to the other end of Columbus Avenue for an excellent Dungeness Crab dinner with dancing to the music of Steve Lucky and then crossing the street down to Jazz at Pearl's where we can be found most Mondays. If the Green Victorian building is on the corner of Columbus Looked for, but didn't see, the green building. But, then, I was driving, there was traffic, and it was dark. She rarely sees what I point out. 4&5= Maybe Franklin? 4= He's right to think it's Kearny Street. 5= Washington Street at Mason Street. Washington Street - I think you could be right - I assumed the shot was looking south because it's on a hill looking towards the Transamerica building The TransAmerica, née Fugazi Bank, Building now houses a well known spiritual fraud. It's a beauty at the corner of Montgomery Street and Columbus Avenue. Your reference is to the TransAmerica Pyramid. - but I've just checked on a MUNI pdf that I found and Washington Street looks spot on :-) Washington Street runs close to E/W. That wonderful MUNI PDF is available at the site at Right in the sig. It shows as a *.GIF upon which you click to get the PDF per my boilerplate: The best on-line map of San Francisco is an inter-active PDF: http://geocities.com/iconoc/Grafix/MuniMap.gif. Click on it to get the *.PDF. I recommend 200-400% magnification. A creation of the San Francisco Municipal Railway, it includes all of its routes. If the Green Victorian building is on the corner of Columbus which I seem to remember and you go up one major road which might be Vallejo St then the next one is Green St - what say you?? That's correct. The next street up is Union St which would have Washington park in the picture on the right hand side Also correct. Well, it's Washington Square, not "Park". Thanks again to everyone for your help 'Swhy most of us're here. __________________________________________________ _________________ One of (as of 2003) 751,682 residents of San Francisco. http://geocities.com/dancefest/ - http://geocities.com/iconoc/ ICQ: http://wwp.mirabilis.com/19098103 --- IClast at SFbay Net |
